The LTH bus is speeding ahead!

– Publicerad den 10 februari 2015

Just over a month has gone by. It’s been a busy time with many new impressions and a fragmented existence. However, it has also been a lot of fun!

Last Friday the LTH Board had its first meeting of 2015, and almost all of us are newcomers. Our new chairperson, Charlotta Falvin, began by comparing the mission to jumping onto a moving bus and trying to steer it right. At first, you’re just trying to take care of the most pressing matters and ignoring the scratches you got when you jumped on. That’s a bit how it felt finalising our financial statements, allocation decisions and the budget for 2015. However, I was very pleased with the atmosphere in the boardroom and the commitment demonstrated by all of the board members. I am therefore convinced that, as a team, we will steer the organisation towards even fairer climes.

One aspect of this is the review of our educational structure that I instigated last week. The inquiry's mandate is to make sure that no stone is left unturned in our efforts to safeguard the quality of our programmes and to make them more cost effective. The review is being led by Deputy Dean Annika Mårtensson, who has put together a team that is to submit a proposal in May. It's a tight deadline, but it’s necessary if we are to have a new structure in place by the end of the year, which is when all the committees and programme boards current mandate expires. In order to achieve the best results possible, we need good ideas from all of you!

There are plenty of exciting things happening at LTH. Last week we learned how engineering students from the food technology programme discovered that bananas – including the skins - can be ground down into a flour that is an excellent replacement for wheat flour in baked goods. We have also read about, among other things, the water-recycling space shower and Massive MIMO. Let’s show the world even more of what’s unique about the Faculty of Engineering, LTH!
