Tid: 2026-04-16 08:15 till 09:30 Lecture

Welcome to a breakfast seminar which sheds some light on the progress of the climate crisis: what key events have occurred in the last ten years, and what is in store for the future?

Climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, is gathering pace, and we are about to pass the 1.5 degree goal set by the world in Paris 2015. Climate change affects increasingly ecosystems, weather patterns and living conditions across the globe. Addressing the climate challenge demands coordinated action across sectors, combining scientific insight with technological innovation, policy measures and broad societal engagement, and comes with multiple benefits and increasing sustainability.

This seminar focuses on the insights and progress gained in the last ten years. How much has the climate system changed to date and where are we headed with todays decisions and efforts on climate mitigation, adaptation, resilience? How can technologies such as CCS help achieve effective and just climate change mitigation? What is the role of actors such as cities in climate action?

During the event, we will hear reflections from three researchers with expertise within the challenges of climate change and the implications of reaching the 1.5 degree goal, the role of CCS as a component for mitigation, and municipal work towards climate-neutrality and approaches for multi-level governance.

The breakfast seminar series 10 back, 10 forward

This seminar is part of the breakfast seminar series 10 back, 10 forward during the Sustainability Week 2026. During this seminar series we explore key outcomes and future directions for some of our most pressing sustainability challenges: renewable energy, biodiversity, food systems, and climate change.

Across four events, researchers will present a historical perspective on the progress and lessons learned from the past decade for each challenge, and share their perspectives on what they hope to see unfold in the future.

Breakfast seminars

13 April: 10 back, 10 forward for the Energy Transition

14 April: 10 Back, 10 Forward for Flora, Fauna and Fungi

15 April: 10 back, 10 forward for the European food system

16 April: 10 back, 10 forward for the Climate

The seminar series is a collaboration between Lund University Sustainability Forum, BECC, Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), and The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE).

The event is part of Sustainability Week 2026, which runs between 13-18 April. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised as a joint venture by Lund University and Lund municipality. The week serves as a platform for bringing together ideas, raising public awareness and for inspiring sustainable change.
