Conference in the southern of Sweden brings AI researchers from around the world together
Soon, 6,000 people will attend the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV) in Malmö, Sweden. Among the participants are researchers from Lund University and other parts of the world - many of whom are global leaders within AI.

“The interest has been very big this year. It is fantastic that we can bring so many leading AI researchers together, both for Lund University and for the region,” says Kalle Åström, professor of mathematics at Lund University and conference coordinator.
“We have received around 10 800 submitted abstracts, with around 2 800 being accepted after a rigorous review process. Registered participants are from all over the world, with representatives from academia, research institutes, and research and development labs at all major AI companies,” he says.
Kalle Åström says they are expecting around 7 000 participants to attend the conference.
“Over the past fifteen years, computer vision has been a key driver behind the development of modern AI. Now the field is converging with generative AI, robotics, and so-called world models - AI systems that attempt to understand and model how the physical world works. Much of the research that will influence AI development in the coming years is being discussed here,” he says.
Prominent figures as keynote speakers
Among the keynote speakers are Yann LeCun, a professor at New York University in the U.S., and Kristen Grauman, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the U.S.
“AI is one of the fields of knowledge that will shape both universities and society for a long time to come. That is why it is significant that the international research community is now gathering in our region. This strengthens our ability to contribute to this development while also attracting researchers and collaborations to Lund, Malmö, and the region,” says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.
The conference is being organised by approximately 30 researchers. Among the organisers from Lund University are, in addition to Kalle Åström, researchers Magnus Oskarsson and Viktor Larsson.
The event is funded by registration fees and sponsorship from companies including Google, Meta, Apple, Amazon, ByteDance, Huawei, and Baidu.
