Mass Spec Lab
We are a service facility equipped with unique technology and experienced scientists in the field of mass spectrometry. We are located at Kemicentrum on the LTH Lund University campus.
In-house expertise
We develop and optimize analytical methods for organic compounds, using liquid chromatography with compound characterization and/or quantification. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry is also available for the analysis of volatile compounds, as well as a state-of-the-art pipetting robot for automated sample preparation. We can assist users with sample preparation and analysis, but we also allow independent access for experienced users.
User skill requirements
Access is provided on three levels. For new and inexperienced users, our staff operates the instruments and can help with data analysis and reporting. Trained users can operate the instruments themselves with supervision from the staff. Experienced users can gain independent access and book the instruments themselves.
Equipment
- TIMS-TOF (Bruker)
Trapped ion mobility spectrometry (TIMS) combined with quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF). This instrument is used for non-targeted approaches.
- Triple Quadrupole LC/MS (Agilent)
This sensitive and robust triple quadrupole mass spectrometer is used for analysis of low (ppb) levels of environmental compounds and biomarkers.
- Revident LC/Q-TOF (Agilent)
This instrument is used for the characterization of synthesized or isolated organic and organometallic compounds, but also for non-targeted approaches.
ICP-MS (Agilent)
This is an instrument that can be used for the analysis of metals in environmental and biological samples.
Typical customers/users
We engage in projects of commissioned research for the research groups at the Centre for Analysis Synthesis (CAS), but also for other departments, other universities, national authorities or companies.
Fees
Information about fees for equipment and technical support are available on request.
Insurance and safety
When operated by our staff, no additional insurance or safety training is required for the visitor. Independent users are required to have insurance and safety training. Please contact us for more information.
