To benefit industry

Research in close cooperation with industry is a natural part of an institute of technology. At LTH, researchers develop knowledge and solutions that contribute to production systems that are both sustainable and resilient.

Many research projects focus on making industrial manufacturing faster, safer and more resource-efficient. Energy savings and environmental sustainability are important goals, ranging from the development of climate-smart concrete to identifying pathways towards net-zero emissions across entire industrial sectors.

LTH conducts broad and advanced research in robotics. Our researchers are developing technologies that support the industries of the future, while others are exploring future food systems and how food production can become more resilient in times of crisis.

Some LTH researchers are working to optimise pharmaceutical manufacturing processes so that patients around the world can receive the right medicines at a reasonable cost.

Research at LTH also includes smart electricity networks, emission-free engines and electric roads capable of powering heavy vehicles. Other researchers are examining the opportunities and challenges associated with bio-based power and heat production.

Our logistics researchers analyse changing consumption patterns and develop proposals for new supply chains. Several of them are investigating how heavy goods transportation can be regulated and organised to reduce its environmental impact.

LTH researchers are also helping to shape the future of packaging. Others are exploring sustainable materials for the tools and equipment that form the foundation of modern industrial manufacturing. Many focus on systems and processes that can reduce costs, improve resource efficiency and strengthen resilience.
