Docent or Readership Course

The Swedish title docent more or less corresponds to a British reader or an American associate professor. As the title docent is a well known denomination
also for most English speaking academics, and to avoid confusion, we have chosen to use just that title when speaking of this course. The Docent course is a course in preparation for appointment as a docent at LTH, as well as a qualifying course in teaching and learning in higher education. The course addresses topics of relevance for a future docent at LTH, such as research supervision, third-cycle studies (doctoral education), academic conduct, scholarly standards, and assessment of PhD candidates.

The aim of the course is thus to prepare a future docent for the functions of a research supervisor, a researcher and a faculty examiner/member of examining committees at LTH.
