"We are stronger together"

DEAN'S BLOG. I would like to welcome all students back to LTH and extend a warm welcome to those who are joining us as new students. Your wellbeing and the knowledge you gain here are important not only for you and for Lund University, but also for society as a whole, both locally and globally. This is the message from Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH.

I hope you, too, are looking forward to an autumn of significant learning and the challenge of solving some tricky problems, writes Annika Olsson, Dean of LTH, in a welcome message to students and staff. Pictured: Student activity on the LTH campus. Photo: Kennet Ruona

After enjoying some wonderful summer days, we have now entered the autumn semester of 2026, and what could be more delightful than a campus where LTH students truly bring the place to life!

First, I would like to congratulate all of you who applied for and secured a place on a programme at LTH. It is wonderful to see our new students meeting new friends, mentors and teachers, and to sense the anticipation in the air, perhaps even a touch of nervousness. Most of all, however, there is a contagious feeling of excitement.

I would like to welcome all students back to LTH and extend a warm welcome to those who are joining us as new students. Your wellbeing and the knowledge you gain are important not only for your own future and for Lund University, but also for society as a whole, both locally and globally.

Engineering, architecture and design drive societal progress. As we work towards building a resilient society and achieving sustainable development across many different fields, those of you who graduate from LTH will be able to contribute highly valued expertise and knowledge that are in great demand.

At LTH, we educate the problem-solvers of tomorrow: developers, leaders and entrepreneurs within engineering, architecture and design. Those of you who are now exploring campus and discovering all that student life has to offer will, in time, become engineers, architects, industrial designers, food technologists and commercial pilots who will help shape the solutions of the future.

The education you have chosen offers both breadth and outstanding opportunities for specialisation and advanced expertise.

Both LTH and I firmly believe that we are stronger together, in groups where we learn from one another's experiences, perspectives and abilities. I expect us to treat one another with respect and to value the benefits that come from our differences and diverse backgrounds. This spirit is also reflected in LTH's vision: "Together, we explore and create – to benefit the world."

I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to you who are new to LTH. I hope that, in time, you will find many new friends and companions here, and become one of those friends to others yourself.

And to everyone at LTH: Take care of yourselves and enjoy the late summer. I hope you, too, are looking forward to an autumn of significant learning and the challenge of solving some tricky problems.

There will no doubt be plenty of hard work ahead, but together I am confident that we can meet whatever challenges come our way.
