Practical information internship

As an intern you will not be regarded as a student and therefore cannot receive course credits from Lund University (LU) for your activities. You are not permitted to study courses at LU.

Below you can find some practical information regarding your internship.

You may be eligible for an Erasmus scholarship for internship. Please ask your home university about that possibility. You can not get a scholarship through Lund University for the internship.

For the Erasmus scholarship a Learning Agreement for Traineeships must be signed by you, your supervisor at LTH, and your home university.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

If you are an EU citizen, you should bring your EHIC from your home country. This entitles you to the same reduced healthcare costs as Swedish citizens. If you are unsure whether you are able to get an EHIC, please contact your national health insurance provider.

Insurance through LTH

Interns at LTH who do not receive credits are covered by the “Insurance for Foreign Visitors”. This insurance includes medical and dental coverage, liability coverage, property coverage and more. It applies 24 hours a day in Sweden, and during direct travel between Sweden and your home country.

Full terms and conditions, as well as the claim form, are available on the Kammarkollegiet website.

To make an insurance claim, fill in the claim form (found through the link above) and submit it together with the original receipts to your supervisor at your department at LTH. Your claim will be signed and submitted to the insurance company Kammarkollegiet by your supervisor.

For medical appointments, you need to pay the costs upfront and then apply for reimbursement. Do not forget to save all original receipts.

Interns are primarily referred to the private housing market, such as  Bopoolen. As you cannot become a member of Studentlund (see below), you are not eligible for accommodation through the student housing organisation AF Bostäder. You are responsible for arranging your own accommodation, with possible assistance from the department.

Advice regarding housing (LU website)

Master’s students and exchange students are given priority in terms of housing provided by LU Accommodation. However, during periods of low demand, interns may also be eligible.

LU Accommodation (LU Accommodation website)

Your host department is responsible for registering you as a visitor in Lucat, the university’s system for digital identities, IT accounts, and access rights.

The registration which will generate an LU identity, including an email account and access card. You can collect your physical LU access card from the Study Centre reception once your department has completed the registration. Remember to bring your passport.

The LU access card allows you to enter university buildings, borrow library books, and print documents.

Studentlund consists of the student nations, the student unions and the Academic Association. Membership provides access to social activities, cultural events, housing queues, and discounts.

Incoming interns and guests generally cannot become full members, as they do not receive credits and are therefore not considered students at Lund University. Their status is instead comparable to staff.

However, if you bring a valid student card from your home university in your home country, you may be able to purchase a guest card for the student nations.

You need to contact a student nation of your choice to buy the card. There is no need to arrange this before arriving in Lund but remember to bring your student card if you are interested in joining Studentlund.
