Lund university scholarship ceremony

The annual Lund University Scholarship Ceremony was held tonight to honour those International students who have been awarded scholarships to study at Lund University.

Just over 120 scholarships were made available for the students who will commence their studies this autumn (Sep 2012).

This includes 73 Lund University Global Scholarships that were awarded on the basis of academic merit and which contribute to the cost of tuition fees.

In addition 50 Lund University students were awarded scholarships from the Swedish Institute with scholarships covering tuition fees and living costs.

The scholarship recipients represent more than 20 countries ranging from China, the USA, Ukraine, Kenya, Iran, Serbia, Australia and Mexico, among others.

The students were presented with scholarship certificates and officially congratulated by Lund University Vice Chancellor, Per Eriksson.

Donors as well as students also shared their stories on the gift of giving as well as receiving the scholarships.

One student, Roshni Sadananda Shetty from India who will be studying a Master´s degree in Food Technology and Nutrition said;

“This scholarship means more than I can ever express. Thanks to this scholarship I had the ability to come here to Lund and study at this high quality university. It means so much to me and my future. Thank you so, so much.”

This is the second year that the Lund University Global Scholarship has been made available. The scholarship programme targets top academic students from outside the EU/EEA and is funded from both government and private funders including:

• Sparbanksstiftelsen Färs & Frosta
• SEB Corporate Finance
• SEB Region Syd
• Sten K Johnson
• Olle Tegstam Foundation
• Sparbanksstiftelsen Öresund

Around 90 of the scholarship recipients attended tonight’s ceremony, together with representatives from some of the Lund University Global Scholarship programme’s donors.

The ceremony was followed by the welcome reception for all of the new international students who have just arrived in Lund ahead of the start of the semester.
