MAKE YOUR MARK

Make your Mark was an exploration of how to use mass consumption to make a positive impact in the world. The result of my research project is a prototype of a table and chair, to be used in a school environment with an added emotional value of a brand message, Make your Mark.

The handprint was chosen as a recognized universal symbol of the connection between people. The logo reacts to touch, being an interactive element that symbolizes making your mark by using the product, giving the message strength through its presence of the student community. The aesthetic of the chair and brand combined communicate to students that their school is making an active choice to do something for others.

The design enabled all parts of the chair and table to be dye cut and assembled to form a stable construction. Simplifying the production methods enabled the use of medium scale production, which increases the number of production sites and minimizes transport distance from production to user.

Once the durability and functionality of the chair had been maximized, additional feedback from market research highlighted that noise pollution was a key issue in the classroom. In order to respond to the requirements of the customer, sound absorbing material was added to enhance the functionality of the table so that it goes beyond that found in a traditional school table.
