BLUND

A portable weather shelter providing a serene resting place, aimed to support and prolong day nurseries trips to the outdoors.

Research about child development show that free play outside, stimulates the child socially and emotionally far more than teacher held activities indoors. Children who spend time outside are more focused and observant of their surrounding, less restless, and less likely to catch infections than children spending their days inside.

Day nurseries practicing pedagogy with focus on the outdoor has become very popular in Sweden. Unfortunately not every nursery has a big yard or close to nature, but with trike bicycles or buses, a growing number of nurseries are taking their children to green areas.

To prolong the time outside Blund provides shelter to wind, rain and sunshine, creating a resting place for the younger children’s daily nap. The solution also offers a sheltered space for playing, cooking and eating. The floor is detachable for a more adventurous game and the large opening shows a wide view. The shelter’s flexibl opening’s enables airflow and change of temperature inside. The outer fabric can be fully removed and the all over dressed mosquito net gives a full outlook to the sky and surroundings. The net’s serene pattern inspired by nature becomes more visible when the shelter wears the outer fabric. Blund is easy and quick to assemble and disassemble, and managed by one person. Materials are lightweight and durable for a everyday use.
