Analys och minskning av effektförlusterna i en borstlös likströmsmotor med vektorstyrning

BorgWarner, a leading automotive component manufacturer faced unexpected challenges such as increased energy losses and reduced overall performance by switching their BLDC-motor control strategy from block commutation to field-oriented vector control. This master thesis presentation demonstrates an in-depth study to address power losses in electric motors, focusing on the specific case of BorgWarner’s brushless DC motor.

The student researcher focused on analyzing the differences between the control algorithms implemented by the company and identifying the sources of increased losses.

Through measurements and simulations, valuable insights into the specific motor's properties were gained. An optimized selection of control currents in the dq-plane to minimize power losses was made. The projects impressive results include a drastic reduction in energy losses and an enhanced understanding of the motor's characteristics for BorgWarner as well as a clear foundation for further development.

This presentation will not only shed light on power losses in electric motors but also highlight the potential for achieving energy savings in the automotive industry. Join us for an engaging event where innovation meets engineering expertise!

This master thesis project was conducted at BorgWarner Landskrona.
