The editorial team wishes you all a long and relaxing summer. See you again in the autumn!

Dean's blog: Lund politicians visiting LTH

"Once a year, the management of the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) invites members of the Swedish Parliament from Skåne to discuss and exchange ideas. Apparently, we once also had a tradition of inviting politicians from the Lund city council. Last autumn, we talked about reviving this tradition and finally we were able to sync our calendars and decide on a day to host such a meeting – Monday 23 May – to talk about LTH and what we have to offer. The meeting was also attended by the chair of the engineering students’ union (TLTH) Björn Sanders (who will soon become chair of the umbrella organisation Lund University students’ unions, LUS)."

Fire and Risk programmes celebrate anniversaries

It's been 30 years since LTH admitted the first group of students to the Fire Protection Engineering and Risk Management programmes. It is also been five years since the start of the international Master's programme in Fire Safety Technology, run in cooperation with the University of Ghent and the University of Edinburgh.

The celebrations will take the form of a conference on 29-30 September 2016 aimed at students, alumni and others with close ties to the programmes. The participation fee, including dinner on 29 September, will be approximately SEK 1500.

More information and invitations will be sent out next week.

Take part in Lund Culture Night on 17 September

At last year's Culture Night event we rolled out the red carpet outside Studiecentrum and received 1,300 visitors! We are doing it all over again this year, and if you would like to get involved or find out more about the event, please contact project leader Hanna Nilvall on hanna.nilvall@kansli.lth.se or phone 046-222 33 08.

The Lund Culture Night takes place each year on the third Saturday of September. When it first launched in 1985 it was the only event of it's kind, but has since been replicated by many other cities - both in Sweden and abroad.

LUCRIS deadline approaching!

LTH's deadline for researchers to input their information into LUCRIS is fast approaching. On 30 June we should all be finished in accordance with the minimum requirements.

This week the system has been updated and you may notice changes to the online portal. Keep sending your feedback to the project team via servicedesk@lu.se as improvements will continue to be made over the summer before the portal opens to the wider public on 22 August.

Scholarships

A lot of people write in and ask us to include information about their scholarships in AktuelLTH. Instead of including each individual scholarship in the newsletter, we would like to draw your attention to the university's central information about scholarships as well as the scholarship search service Research Professional. You can also sign up to receive the university's newsletter Research Funding News.

Two small exceptions:

  • The Swedish Transport Administration's Anniversary Foundation (Trafikverkets Jubileumsfond) is granting scholarships for innovative proposals and projects on this year's theme 'Pedestrian development'. Proposals should have the potential of improving conditions for pedestrians in cities and in the countryside. Deadline for applications is 9 September 2016. About the scholarship and how to apply (in Swedish)
  • REXUS/BEXUS – Rocket and Balloon Experiments for University Students. Deadline for applications is 17 October. About the scholarship
