Student counsellors

Meet LTH's counsellors

LTH counsellors are qualified social workers with advanced training in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). The counsellors at LTH meet hundreds of students every year and are used to all kinds of issues. Many students find themselves in unsustainable situations which they overcome with the right support.

You can turn to them if you find yourself in a situation where you are in need of support and advice—not necessarily related to your studies. LTH counsellors are bound to confidentiality and you can visit them free of charge.

Contact and appointments

Contact LTH's counsellors by phone or email. The counsellors are available during office hours.

If necessary, you can book a time to talk to the counsellors in person. There usually is a waiting period of 2-4 weeks, but it varies over the academic year.

Do you need to consult a doctor?

LTH counsellors provide you support and advice while you study at LTH, but they are not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you are experiencing severe anxiety or depression and maybe thinking about taking your life, you need to contact the adult psychiatry emergency centre that is open 24 hours a day.

A frequently asked question about confidentiality

"I need to speak to the counsellor and I know they have a duty of confidentiality. But can I trust the confidentiality? I have heard something about mandatory reporting ...?"

The trustees maintain confidentiality under the confidentiality laws, but they also have the obligation to file a report in specific circumstances, i.e. if they become aware of a situation in which a child needs help or of a crime punishable by more than 2 years of imprisonment. It is therefore unlikely that LTH's counsellor will be in a situation where they must break the privacy.

There are professionals bound to absolute secrecy and who do not have the duty to report—priests. You do not need to have a religious belief to talk to a priest. Students in Lund can turn to Studentprästerna, who are bound to absolute privacy.
