1177 - Health care information
In case of illness you can call the Health care information number, seven days a week. Dial 1177 and a registered nurse will give medical advice on how to take care of yourself or information on where you can go if your condition calls for care by a physician.
Health care clinics (Vårdcentral)
Vårdcentral is a health care facility that is primarily devoted to the care of outpatients. Health care clinics can be privately operated or publicly managed and funded, and typically cover the primary health care needs of populations in local communities, in contrast to larger hospitals which offer specialised treatments and admit inpatients for overnight stays.
On the right column, under Health Care Guide, you will be able to find a list of health care clinics in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg.
Health insurance for exchange students
All students are covered for accidents occurring within the framework of their studies - in class, while studying at a university library and when travelling from dorm to class.
In addition, the Swedish State has designed insurance for international students in Sweden. There are different kinds of insurance and handlings. Please check on the website below which type applies to you.
If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you are required to bring a certificate of health insurance coverage (EHIC) when entering Sweden to be guaranteed necessary medical treatment. It is your individual responsibility to make sure that you have sufficient insurance coverage during your stay in Lund.
Home and travel insurance
Lund University does not offer home and travel insurance, therefore we strongly recommend all students to have additional insurance that covers travels, theft, burglary, damage of property, etc. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange third-party-liability insurance. If you have home insurance in your home country, make sure that you are still covered during your stay in Sweden.
Most Swedish insurance companies require that their customers have a Swedish personal number. However you can ask each insurance company regarding their specific requirements.
