Welcome to a workshop organised by the interdisciplinary Theme Synthetic Biology at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies at Lund University.

Synthetic biology requires a multidisciplinary approach from different fields, including protein and metabolic engineering, mathematics, computational biology, systems biology, and automation. While societal and legal perspectives are necessary for successful implementation of synthetic biology research results, this workshop focuses on the technical aspects of synthetic biology. 

About the workshop

The aim of this workshop is to identify researchers and research groups at Lund University with expertise in the fields that contribute to synthetic biology. In this way, we will further the knowledge on engineering of biological systems and its applications to mitigate, compensate and reverse the effects of climate change. We will also be able to develop alternatives to processes, materials, and products with lower environmental impact. This conversation will serve to launch the bases for building a future synthetic biology platform at Lund University.  

The workshop will provide expertise from researchers at Lund University working on the various areas that comprise synthetic biology. They will share the goals and methodologies of their area of research, explore the main accomplishments of their field, as well as their thoughts on the main scientific and future expectations or projects.

The event will be held in person and is open to all researchers with an interest in synthetic biology.

About the Theme Synthetic Biology

The Theme focuses on analyzing the potential of synthetic biology for mitigating the climate crisis by developing biological systems for production of energy, chemicals, materials, and food.
