Quality Control

Quality control analysis is offered to customers who are planning to run a gene expression experiment at SCIBLU Genomics. Other QC requests will be handled if time permits.

 

Nucleic acid quantitation
NanoDrop is used to measure concentration and purity of nucleic acids before starting a microarray experiment. The ratio of the absorbance at 260/280 should be close to 2.0 for RNA and 1.8 for DNA. The 260/230 ratio should preferably be above 2. A lower ratio might indicate contamination, such as GITC or phenol residues from extraction. 

 

RNA quality
The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is used to analyze nucleic acid integrity. RNA samples can be analysed with either the Nano, Pico or a Small RNA chip, depending on sample composition, amount and concentration. The RNA Integrity Number (RIN) algorithm classifies total RNA between 1 and 10, where 10 is the most intact RNA.
