Irina Bocharova is associate professor at State University of Information Technology, Mechanics and Optics. Her research interests include error-correcting codes, communication systems, source coding and its applications to speech, audio and image compression. She has over 60 publications as papers, patents and reports. In 2010  Cambridge University Press published Irina’s book  “Compression for Multimedia”. She began writing it  in 2005 when she held the Lise Meitner professorship at LTH .

In collaboration with Professor Rolf Johannesson, Dr.  Mark Handlery, and  Dr. Maja Loncar,  Irina and her husband Professor Boris Kudryashov, developed  the  efficient search and decoding algorithm called BEAST and constructed block codes with better performance than previously known.
