Jobs of the future

"Both in California, where I was last week, and here at home you constantly hear how hard it is for companies to find people with the right background for the job. Businesses are all looking for people to hire in many different industries, but the demand is especially high in the area of education that we offer at LTH, as the industries that operate in this sector expect a high rate of retirement in the near future. We have a good number of applications to many of our programmes and, as I mentioned, the demand is high. We would enroll more students, but this requires more resources. Without funding, I am worried that companies will have to look outside Sweden to find qualified employees."

Pick up a copy of "50 år med LTH – en fingervisning om teknik"

Would you (or your department) like to get a free copy of LTH's jubilee book 50 år med LTH, en fingervisning om teknik (Fifty years of LTH, a pointer on engineering)? You can pick up one ore more copies at LTH information desk (Study Centre, Floor 1).

There are still 300 copies available. They are distributed on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Science Week March 6-12 - Is the World Becoming a Better Place?

A warmer climate, increasing gaps between rich and poor, environmental damage, shortage of clean water, inequality between men and women... It almost seems as there is no end to the major global challenges we have to tackle. How do we reverse the trend and how can research contribute?

The science week “Is the world becoming a better place?” from 6 to 12 March is organised as part of Lund University’s 350th anniversary celebrations. The week will be inaugurated on Sunday 5 March from 17:00 to 18:30 in the auditorium of the main University building with discussions and choral singing.

Here below you will find a selection of events that will take place during the Science Week - Is the World Becoming a Better Place?

Debate: Is the World Becoming a Better Place?

The climate is getting increasingly warmer and politics more polarised. In the media, we read about war, terrorism and people drowning in the Mediterranean on their quest for a better life. Yet, meanwhile, large parts of the global population have risen out of poverty in recent decades. Average life expectancy is increasing, more children are in school and gender equality is progressing. How are we to assess the development? Has the world become a better or worse place to live in?
In this debate, leading international researchers in moral philosophy, economics and politics will provide new perspectives on where the world is headed. Guests include: Martha Nussbaum, Carlota Perez, James Robinson, Jan Teorell and Alf Hornborg.

When: March 6, 19:00-21:00
Where: AF-borgen

Nanotechnology for the Future

During the day we will open up the lab and give guided tours, telling the story of the role that nanotechnology plays in current and future challenges. During the evening, we welcome you to lectures and debates about nanotechnology in society.

When: March 7, 14:00-20:00
Where: K-space, Division of Solid State Physics, Department of Physics

Män och mat

Lund University Food Studies (LUFO) organizes a debate on men and food (in Swedish). What happens to our view of food, home, family, and society when men take over cooking? Today man cook more than 1/3 of the food we eat at home. The increase is huge Sweden, which is a pioneering country in this sphere. Participate in the debate to know more about how things have changed in the kitchen and what is going to happen in the future.

When: March 8, 2017, 13:00-16:00
Where: LUX:C126, Helgonavägen 3, Lund

This seminar provides a forum for presenting important activities at Chalmers and discussions of opportunities for further cooperation with industry, academia and institutes in the industrial sector.

When: March 28, 2017, 10:00–16.30
Wher: Palmstedtsalen, Chalmers Conference Centre, Chalmersplatsen 1, Gothenburg

Apply to Clinical Innovation Fellowships

The goal of the Clinical Innovation Fellowships is to improve healthcare by identifying clinical needs and challenges gathered during clinical immersion and create solutions to address those needs. Participants have a background within medicine, engineering, design and/or business and work in multidisciplinary teams throughout the program. For many fellowhip participants, the program is the first step in creating a start-up in the medical technology field.
The program is a joint initiative of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Karolinska Institutet (KI), and EIT Health, inspired by, and in cooperation with, Stanford University. During the course of the program participants will get the opportunity to interact with a veriety of partner organizations around the globe and collaborate closely with our sister programs Moebio in Barcelona, Spain, and Bioinnovate in Galway, Ireland.

Deadline to apply: March 26, 2017
