LTH employee art exhibition

A number of LTH's staff members are showing their artwork at an exhibition being held between 4 - 8 April 2016.

Where: Navet, Sölvegatan 22F, Lund

The exhibition opens with festivities and live music on 4 April between 16:00-19:00.

Maker weekend with 3D printing at Vattenhallen

Experience exciting and interactive experiments and shows at Vattenhallen Science Center.

When: 12:00 on 9 April until 17:00 on 10 April 

Where:Vattenhallen Science Center, John Ericssons väg 1, Lund 

We will draw a figure using a computer program and then watch it being printed, layer by layer, in a 3D printer. You will also get the opportunity to create your own 3D figures using a 3D pen.

Marcus Romner: "From idea to reality" - at 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00 (in Swedish)

The solder room will be open for your to try your hand at soldering and building.

Planetarium shows are on Saturdays and Sundays at 13:45 and 14:45. Tickets are available from reception. Recommended from 5 years and up.


Enlightening fellowships in Spain

ICFO – the Institute of Photonic Sciences is a center based in the Barcelona metropolitan area (Spain), passionate about advancing the frontiers of the science of light, and devoted to research and education at the highest international level.

ICFO are currently offering 18 fellowships for this year 2016 to join the ICFO International PhD Program. Detailed information about the program and the fellowships is available at http://phd.icfo.eu. The deadline for application is April 01, 2016.

The Student Union has released details of the theme for freshers' week (nollning) this coming autumn. The theme is "Rebellious Freshers".

ERC Starting Grants and Consolidator Grants workshop

The ERC Starting Grants call for proposal 2017 has preliminary deadline mid-October 2016 and ERC Consolidator Grants call preliminary deadline February 2017. To be eligible for these grants the applicant shall have been awarded his/her first PhD between 2 and 7 years prior to 1 January 2017 (Starters) or 7-12 years prior to 1 January 2017 (Consolidators). 

A workshop will take place on Monday 13 June, between 9:00 and 16:00.

Place: Lundmarksalen, Department of Astronomy, Sölvegatan 27, Lund.

The workshop will be held in English. Attendance is free of charge.


Travel grants for young researchers

Nominate promising young researchers to take part in a U21 workshop about Big Data. Early Career Researchers Workshops is an initiative within the U21 network that aims to help young researchers at the start of their careers to build international networks. Taking part in these workshops provides excellent opportunities to network and develop your career. The workshop's broad theme allows researchers from many different disciplines to participate.

The workshop is taking place on 29-30 September 2016 at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Lund University can send 2-3 participants.

Nominations, including a short motivation, should be sent to ulrika.qvist_mathiesen@er.lu.se no later than 21 April 2016. The nomination should contain name, a short CV and state the individual's research area (in English).


Reminder: Swedish Innovation Award

No other Swedish innovation award can compare to the SKAPA-prize when it comes to breadth and engagement. There are both regional and national winners, and the competition attracts a large number of participants every year.

Two years ago, LTH alumnus Mehrdad Mahdjoubi won win his space shower.

The aim of the SKAPA-prize is to support innovators, help them bring their inventions and ideas to market and to highlight the importance of innovation in the wider economy. The prize fund totals more than SEK1m.

Applications are due on 10 April 2016 via the foundation's website www.stiftelsenskapa.se
