Synchrotron Radiation Physics

Research

The research at the division of Synchrotron Radiation Research is directed towards experimental studies of the electronic and geometrical properties of surfaces and interfaces and of molecules. We seek fundamental understanding on the atomic level of the physical processes which govern the interplay between the geometrical structure on the atomic length scale and the function of micro-, nano- and quantumstructures. The research is of fundamental nature but has close connections to applied issues within, for example, semiconductor-structures, catalytic materials, and artificial materials.

We mainly apply synchrotron radiation-based spectroscopies, microscopies, and diffraction methods as well as scanning tunneling microscopies. Close collaborations with theoretical groups are integral parts of our work. In the near future, we will complement these with time-resolved methods in order to study dynamical processes and how these relate to electronic and geometrical structure.
