The construction industry is perhaps the most important sector in society, both economically and socially. The number of homes and commercial premises being built is increasing. At the same time, there is a growing demand for sustainable development with new building materials and methods, and additional interested parties. Modern construction practices place high demands on the engineering knowledge that underpins technical skills and abilities.
The programme in Civil Engineering including Architecture aims to provide graduates who can:
- take part in the development of the construction process, from the
formulation of ideas, to drawings, planning, production planning and
production, to operation and management
- apply their skills in many environmental, aesthetic, ethical, financial and
social situations
- bridge the gap between architects and engineers in complex construction
processes
The programme is characterised by a broad engineering definition of architecture, a holistic engineering approach and strong local industrial connections, all of which mean that graduates are ready to work as operational construction engineers.
Workplace training is a practical component of some courses in the first and second years. The intention is to connect courses and the area of specialisation to building companies and contractors, authorities and real-estate management organisations in the construction sector.
A workplace course, projects and mentors from industry are other important components of the programme.
