Doctoral studies at LTH

Doctoral studies at LTH can be performed in different modes, including:

• As a doctoral student formally admitted to the doctoral education at LTH
• As an exchange student as part of the doctoral education at the student's home university
• Within a sandwich-programmes” where the doctoral students divide their time between LTH and a partner university abroad.

For each of these modes different rules and proceedures apply.

Doctoral studies at LTH requires four years of studies (240 ECTS credits). During the studies, the candidate writes a doctoral thesis which is publically defended. Doctoral studies include both course work and active research at one of the 20 departments constituting LTH.
