Insurance for master's students

Master's students - all programmes except IMFSE and FIPDes

EU/EEA (non fee-paying students)
You are entitled to access public medical services in Sweden if you first register with the social insurance office in your home country. You will be issued with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You need to have the card with you when you seek medical attention.

As a master's student at Lund University you are also covered by a special insurance provided by the Swedish government called Student IN. This insurance includes accident cover, costs for home transport in case of illness or accident, liability cover and legal expenses. The insurance is valid when you are in Sweden, so for travel outside Sweden you will need additional insurance cover which you should get in your home country. Remember to bring a certificate documenting your insurance.

For claims student are to fill in Student IN claim form and hand it in to Cecilia Nilsson at the international office. She will sign the claim form and forward all documents to Kammarkollegiet. Handling time at Kammarkollegiet is approximately one month. Remember to hand in all receipts in original.

Non-EU/EEA (fee-paying students)
If you are staying in Sweden for more than one year, and have a valid residence permit to prove this, you are entitled to the same health care as all Swedes. You need to apply for a personal identity number at the Swedish Tax Office (Skatteverket), as soon as you arrive, to be eligible for this. This is only valid for students who are here for 12 months or longer.

Non-EU/EEA student who is required to pay tuition fees (regardless of length of study period)
are covered by a special insurance provided by the Swedish government called FAS +. This insurance includes accident cover, costs for home transport in case of illness or accident, liability cover, legal expenses and property cover. The insurance is valid only in Sweden. For travels outside of Sweden you will need an additional insurance cover which you should get in your home country.

FIPDes (Food Innovation and Product Design)

Marsh insurance applies for all scholarship students regardless of country of origin. Coverage 24 hours – allover for  ”travels required for the participation in the Erasmus Mundus programme”. The insurance is called “EMIS2 – Erasmus Mundus insurance scheme”.

EU/EEA citizens 
You are entitled to access public medical services in Sweden if you first register with the social insurance office in your home country. You will be issued with a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You need to have the card with you when you seek medical attention. EHIC should primarily be used in first hand. Patient fees and medical costs can be reimbursed:

< 250 Euro => EMIS2 ”Claim form for medical expenses” to be filled in.
> 250 Euro =>EMIS2 ”General claim form” to be filled in.

 

IMFSE (International Master of Fire Safety Engineering)

“De Europese insurance” for all students regardless of country of origin or scholarship or not. Coverage: 24 hours – all over. E-mail address for questions and claims: travel@europese.be. Elise Meerburg (central IMFSE coordinator) coordinates questions from IMFSE administrators. Insurance information posted on IMFSE student portal and all students are provided with a personal ”Certificate of Insurance” – to be brought all over.

The students should in a first instance use their EHIC card. If this card would not be accepted for certain medical instances and treatments, the European insurer intervenes for the medical costs.

If, after using the EHIC card, there are still remaining costs for the account of the students, the European insurer intervenes for these amounts, and independent of the amplitude of this amount.

Important regarding IMFSE och FIPDES: Lund University Erasmus Mundus insurance does not cover Erasmus Mundus action 1.
