Our New Vision – Experience LTH
The Faculty of Engineering (generally referred to using the initials of its Swedish name, LTH) is a faculty within Lund University and is one of Sweden´s most prominent centres for reserarch and education in technology and engineering. The research work carried out at LTH is of high international class, and in a number of areas we are world leaders. We are committed to promoting pedagogical diversity, and we ensure that our educational programmes are constantly developing to meet the needs of students, society and industry. We also have a uniquely close working relationship with other faculties of Lund University, which enables us to offer our students, and ourselves, incomparable opportunities for development.
At the same time, we cannot ignore the fact that the competition from other universities and colleges is growing tougher and tougher; their competence deserve our respect. If we are to remain attractive in the eyes of students it is important for us to know how we can move forward. We need clear objectives which apply throughout the organisation: we need a well-defined conception of what work we want to be doing, and we need to articulate our vision. For these reasons, during 2003 we invested a great deal of effort into reaching the formulation of our vision and identity presented in this document. This work would not have been possible without the invaluable commitment shown by hundreds of people at LTH.
Our new business model, which you can read about on the following pages, describes in concrete terms where LTH stands today and where it is heading. It also provides the basis for a number of development projects. Our new vision statement, while perhaps somewhat unconventional in expression, is at the same time simple and distinct. The task of the vision statement is to be a clear and concentrated guiding light for all our work. Its purpose is to serve as an unambiguous reminder of what we wish to represent – openness: our openness vis-à-vis Lund University and all the other universities of the world; our openness towards society and its institutions, towards industry, towards close colleagues, and friends at other seats of learning; and above all, our openness with regard to students. This openness is to be a defining feature of our future; it is something we must work together to achieve, and it is the tool that enables us to create opportunities for people.
The foundation for this openness is an open mind. And an open mind is the key to our vision, the key to what we call: Experience LTH
