Water innovation project for Indonesia wins scholarship competition

2015-01-13

On Saturday 10 January, a prize ceremony was held in Jakarta, Indonesia for the winners of the Blue Bag Water Innovation Award 2015 – a challenge where students from Indonesia could present their own innovative ideas on how to help solve the water problems in Jakarta.

The first prize was awared to Alisa Febriani for her idea on a water conservation campaign: The Kinanti Project challenges Jakarta’s middle and upper class to save water, everyday, in their home. The saved water could then be donated directly to those who need it, or even converted into money to fund restoration work (planting trees, make a biopore, etc). The project encourages people to change their behaviour, benefits people who don’t have access to clean water, and helps the environment at the same time.”

Winner recives a full scholarship and an internship

Arlisa received a full scholarship to study the Lund University Master’s programme in Water Resources Engineering, covering both the tuition fee and her living costs in Sweden, and an internship at Mercy Corps Indonesia.

The second prize was awarded to Ahmad Egi Pratama Hanif for his idea on rain water harvesting. The third prize was awarded to Stephen Sanjaya for his idea on smart water system management. Ahmad and Stephen were awarded 25% scholarships for the Master’s Programme in Water Resources Engineering at Lund University and an internship with Mercy Corps Indonesia.

The award was a collaboration between IKEA Indonesia, Mercy Corps Indonesia, Lund University and competition organiser Sqore.
