Infrastructure

Modern society is dependent on infrastructure for various kinds of transport, including  the transmission of energy and information transfer. An often complex structure, considerable economic value and limited ability to make rapid changes, make them special cases in engineering.
The kinds of infrastructure that are most important from an energy point of view are the national electricity grid, networks for the distribution of district heating, and the road network, bearing in mind that transport accounts for about one quarter of all energy use in Sweden.
In recent years, our attention has been drawn to the dependence of one kind of infrastructure on another. This is thus an important area for risk and vulnerability analysis.
